Student Council Campaign Posters
2020
At the start of my senior year of high school we had student council elections and I ran as a candidate for IB2 batch representative. Together with a few other candidates, we formed the Unity Party. We needed to campaign and as I was the only member of my party with knowledge regarding graphic design, I was tasked to create our campaign posters. With our posters we wanted it to be both clever and appealing. Since we were campaigning towards 16 - 19 year-old's, the posters had to be recognizable to everyone. The theme that we decided on was music streaming, namely Spotify as it is an application that everyone was familiar with.
Whole party poster
For our whole party poster I took inspiration from the desktop user interface of the Spotify app. The most reasonable design would be to make the poster look like an artist's profile but of course with our party name instead. The poster also needed to include the proposals we had so I decided to them in the section where an artists top songs would usually be placed.

The small details in the poster also influence the viewer to support our party as in the search bar at the top, it is searching for "the best party" and with our proposals, each of them have a solid heart next to them, implying that our proposals are liked. One of the more interesting parts of the poster is the barcode on the top right that viewers can scan with the Spotify app on their phone that takes them to a custom curated playlist I made for our party.
For our individual posters, I decided to take inspiration from the mobile user interface of the Spotify app. As each poster needed to be for each candidate of my party, I made each of our profiles look as if we were songs being played on the app. I replaced the album covers with a photo of the respective member and replaced the song title with something that's related to the position we are running for. Our names were also added where the artists name would usually go. A feature on the mobile app for Spotify is that if you scroll down from the player, you can view the lyrics of the song. So I took this idea and replaced the lyrics with a short description/biography of the candidate.

One problem that I initially encountered was how to make the lyrics fit in the poster as when you are using the mobile app, you have to scroll, but you aren't able to scroll on a poster. So I eventually decided to stitch the top section with the lyrics to make a longer poster where all the details of the candidate can be seen.
